Proteins are composed of amino acids linked together by peptide bonds. In the horse’s body, amino acids are the major components of muscle, enzymes and many hormones.

  • Lysine
  • Methionine

Lysine

Function

The major essential amino lysine cannot be synthesised by the horse and needs to be supplemented. It is used in the formation and repair of muscle and other soft tissue throughout the body, as well as synthesis and release of hormones, regulation of sleep, appetite and blood pressure.

Methionine

Function

Methionine is one over the other 10 essential amino acids and has a role in the formation and repair of bones, muscles and soft tissue.
